SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The JetHawks used a five-run fifth inning, a three-run fifth inning and a solid start from Josh James to pick up an 8-1 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Tuesday night at San Manuel Stadium.

The series opening win pushed Lancaster's record to 64-50 overall, tying to club at a season-high 14 games over .500.

The team improved its second half record to 29-15 and maintained a 2.5 game lead over second-place Lake Elsinore.

The JetHawks fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but starter Josh James (9-3) settled in and did not allow another run over six innings. He earned his team-high ninth win of the season and improved to 4-0 this season in five appearances against Inland Empire. James allowed the one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Lancaster's offense picked up James with a five-run outburst in the third inning against 66ers starter Jeremy Rhoades (4- 11). Osvaldo Duarte tied the game with a run-scoring double and scored when the following batter, Drew Ferguson, doubled in two runs. Bryan Muniz added a run-scoring single and Jason Martin capped the rally with an RBI-triple. All five runs scored with two outs.

The JetHawks added on against Rhoades in the fifth. Duarte started the rally with a single and eventually scored on a Martin base-hit. Jamie Ritchie follow with a two-run double to put Lancaster up, 8-1.

Elieser Hernandez and Ralph Garza combined to throw three hitless innings of relief to finish the victory.

Five different JetHawks recorded multi-hit games including Duarte, Ferguson, Muniz, Martin and Keach Ballard.

The clubs will square off in game two of the three-game series on Wednesday at San Manuel Stadium. Rogelio Armenteros (6-3) will start against Garrett Nuss (1-2). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
