New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
RICHMOND, VA - Chad Jenkins tossed his best start in a month, setting the stage for another wild affair in Richmond on Thursday night. But, much like Wednesday, after the Fisher Cats took an extra-innings lead, the Flying Squirrels overcame the deficit for a walk-off 3-2 win in 13 innings. The loss is the seventh straight for New Hampshire as they continue a six-game road trip in Bowie on Friday night.
Jenkins tossed the first six innings for New Hampshire, turning in his best and longest outing since coming off the disabled list. He allowed just one run, a solo homer in the third, on four hits. The right worked around a career-high five walks while recording four strikeouts.
Richmond's Mike Kickham was equal to the task for Richmond, allowing one run over seven strong innings. The lone blemish on his line was Ryan Goins' two-out RBI single in the second that gave the Fisher Cats an early 1-0 lead. Ryan Cavan's homer an inning later against Jenkins tied the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied all the way until the 13th inning when the Fisher Cats broke the tie. With one out, Mike McDade drew a walk, leaving the game for pinch-runner Brad McElroy. After Sean Ochinko was hit by a pitch, a groundout moved runners the runners to second and third. With two outs, a wild pitch by reliever Edwin Quirarte (W; 1-0) scored McElroy to give the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead.
But, just like Wednesday night, the Flying Squirrels wouldn't go away. They loaded the bases against Fernando Hernandez (L; 0-4), who entered the game with a scoreless twelfth inning. A sacrifice fly tied the game at 2, albeit with two outs in the inning. Two batters later, Nick Liles singled home the winning run to complete the three-game Richmond sweep.
The Fisher Cats now continue their six-game southern swing in Bowie on Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Joel Carreno (1-3, 4.25) takes the ball against Bowie RHP Sean Gleason (1-1, 5.60). Radio coverage of begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home on Tuesday, June 19, to begin a seven-game homestand with the Reading Phillies and Harrisburg Senators. The stand begins with a CCSNH Reading Challenge night. For the full list of promotions and to purchase tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
