Jason Ward assigned to Bulldogs for conditioning puroses

Montreal Canadiens' General Manager, Bob Gainey, today announced that forward Jason Ward has been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League for conditioning purposes.

Ward, 24, has missed the last 19 games due to a broken ankle suffered on November 1st in a game against the New York Rangers. He played in 12 games with the Canadiens this season, and recorded two points (1-1-2).

Ward, enjoyed an outstanding season in Hamilton during 2002-03, where he was named the winner of the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL's most valuable player, as voted by AHL players and media in each of the AHL's member cities.

A 2002-03 First Team AHL All-Star, Ward tallied 31 goals and 41 assists for 72 points in 69 games with Hamilton last season, and was leading the AHL in scoring at the time of his recall to the parent Montreal Canadiens on March 12, 2003. The right-winger also recorded a plus-20 rating for the league leading Bulldogs, who were 47-12-6-4 with Ward in the lineup.

Ward was also instrumental in the Bulldogs run to the Calder Cup Finals last season. In 23 games, Ward scored 21 points (12-9-21), which was tops in the AHL.

Selected 11th overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Ward was also voted to the Canadian team-starting lineup for the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic. The native of Chapleau, Ontario, has 76 goals and 98 assists for 174 points in 220 career AHL contests, and has added six goals and ten points in 64 NHL games with Montreal.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next action takes place tomorrow night - Wednesday December 17th when they host the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks at Copps Coliseum.
