JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to today's game against the Montgomery Biscuits at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 3:05 p.m.

Left-handed starting pitcher Jarlin Garcia, a member of the Marlins 40-man roster, has been recalled from Jacksonville to the major league Miami Marlins. He joins the Marlins today in Washington, and will be available to pitch in today's game between the Marlins and Nationals at Nationals Park at 1:35 p.m.

Garcia went 1-2 with a 4.04 ERA in seven starts with Jacksonville, and collected 25 strikeouts in his 35 and two-thirds innings of work. He earned his first win of the season in his last start, tossing five and two-thirds scoreless innings against the Shuckers in Biloxi on Tuesday May 10. He was scheduled to start today's game for the Suns against the Biscuits.

Garcia, listed by Baseball America as the Marlins No. 3 prospect for 2016, also pitched for the Suns last year, where he was 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA in seven starts.

Garcia is 23 years old, a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and this is the first major league call-up in his career. He is also the first Sun to receive a direct call-up to the majors from Jacksonville in 2016, after five Suns made the jump to the majors from Jacksonville last year.

The Suns roster now stands at 24 active players.

The Suns continue their series with Montgomery at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, when Suns right-hander Chris Mazza (0-0, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to face Biscuits right-hander Jake Faria (0-3, 4.97 ERA). Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday begins with kids catch on the field after gates open at 2 p.m., followed by a Suns player reading a children's story. The afternoon includes a first pitch by a stroke survivor, autographs by former major leaguer and Bolles School alumnus Rick Wilkins. It's also Princesses and Pirates Day, so take a picture with one of the princesses, get a free face painting behind Section 108, and after the game, kids can run the bases. Sunday is also presented by Channel 4 The Local Station.
