Jammers Twisted-Up by Brooklyn

August 2, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Jamestown Jammers News Release

Jamestown, NY- The Jammers welcomed in the Brooklyn Cyclones for three games on Friday night. The welcome would not be a cordial one as the Cyclones pounded out 13 hits en-route to a 8-1 victory. Jared King would deliver the big blow of the night in the fourth inning as he cleared the bases with a double to put the game out of reach.

Chad Kuhl entered the night owning a 0.82 ERA for the Jammers as he looked to continue his streak of innings without allowing an earned run (7). The streak would end rather quickly as the Cyclones would put together a four run first inning off the strength of five base hits. Jamestown would look to battle back in the bottom of the second inning as Harold Ramirez would score off a Edwin Espinal ground ball to make it 4-1.

The Jammers would try and keep things in check as they would keep Brooklyn off the scoreboard in the second and third innings. Kuhl would find himself in a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning and exit the game in favor of Will Kendall. Jared King would deliver his only hit of the night with a double to left field that would empty the bases and give the Cyclones a 7-1 lead.

Miller Diaz seemed to have the Jammers number all night as he scattered two hits over six innings of work en-route to striking out eight Jamestown batters. The bright spot on the night for the Jammers would be the pitching of Oderman Rocha. Rocha put together a yeoman's effort out the bullpen as he pitched three scoreless innings. He would strike out five Cyclones batters in the process and bring the Brookyln offense to a hault.

With the win Brookyln (22-22) pulls back even at the .500 plateau, while the Jammers fall to 28-16 on the season. Diaz picked up his fourth win of the season and Kevin McGowan (pitching three innings) notched his third save of the season. Kuhl, with the loss falls to 1-3 on the season and now holds a 2.84 ERA. The two teams will square off again at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow night for game two with left hander Jackson Lodge (3-1 3.92 ERA) scheduled to take the mound for Jamestown. He will be opposed by right hander John Gant (2-2 2.56 ERA) for the Cyclones.
