Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers jumped out to another early lead on Friday night, but, for the second night in a row, the Jammers couldn't keep it as they fell to Hudson Valley, 2-1, at Diethrick Park.

It was a pitching dominated night, but one mistake proved to be fatal for the Jammers, who lost their first home series of the season. Despite the loss, Jamestown (16-12) remains in a first-place tie with Mahoning Valley after the Scrappers lost to Connecticut.

Both teams threatened in the early going, and Jamestown finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rand Smith and Brent Keys each had a single to put runners at first and second. Austin Barnes then connected for a RBI double that scored Smith and moved Keys to third with two outs, but the next batter would strike out to leave both men on base.

Hudson Valley would ground into a double play in the fifth to stay off the board; however, the Renegades broke through in the sixth. Matt Rice walked with one out, and Kyle Holloway hit a home run to left field to provide all the offense Hudson Valley would need. In the seventh inning, Hudson Valley had a chance to break the game open with the bases loaded and only one out, but Blake Brewer struck out the final two batters to end the threat.

Josh Adams roped a two-out double in the bottom of the frame to give the Jammers their best opportunity to tie the game. He was left stranded there after the next hitter fanned.

In his first start since coming off the disabled list, Jamestown's Helpi Reyes turned in a solid outing. The Dominican Republic native tossed four innings and gave up just three hits with two walks and three strikeouts to get a no decision. Brad Mincey took the loss in his Jamestown debut after giving up the two-run homer to fall to 0-1. Offensively, Keys kept his hitting streak alive with a single to run it to 15 games, and Barnes had a pair of hits with a double.

Robert Dickmann earned the win for the Renegades to go to 3-0, and Charlie Cononie earned his fourth save by pitching a hitless eighth and ninth. The Jammers will now host the Scrappers in a first-place showdown Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
