Cutters Sack Spinners for Series Win

The Williamsport Crosscutters won their first road series of the 2011 season by defeating the Lowell Spinners 7-3 Friday night at LeLacheur Park.

The Spinners opened the scoring in the bottom of the third, as a one-out RBI single by Matty Johnson made it 1-0. The Cutters tied it in the top of fourth, as Aaron Altherr tripled and scored on a groundout by Kenny Miramontes.

The Cutters added another run in the top of the fifth, as Harold Martinez singled and later scored on a wild pitch by Spinners reliever Swen Huijer. The visitors added two more in the top of the sixth on RBI singles by Miramontes and Martinez to make it 4-1.

Lowell trimmed the Williamsport lead by two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Garin Cecchini's two-run double off the wall in left cut the lead to 4-3. The Cutters answered with three runs on three hits in the eighth, highlighted by an RBI double by Martinez and an RBI single by Patrick Murray to make it 7-3.

Lino Martinez earned his third win of the season, pitching six innings allowing just one earned run. Austin Brough and Gabriel Arias combined for 2.2 shutout innings of relief to close out the game for the Cutters.
