NILES, OH - After dropping the first two games in the series to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the Connecticut Tigers took the victory in the finale 7-4 on Friday night at Eastwood Field.

The Scrappers took an early 2-0 advantage in the first inning on a two-run single from Jordan Smith. However, Tigers starter Tyler Barrett settled down after that inning and worked four scoreless frames to finish off his evening.

Connecticut cut the deficit to one with a solo home run in the fourth inning by Curt Casali, his first professional long ball. Casali, who came into the contest 1-for-20 to start off his career, went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Tigers would take the lead in the top of the sixth on back-to-back RBI doubles from Zach Maggard and Colin Kaline, whose grandfather Hall of Famer and Tiger legend Al Kaline was in attendance, to go on top 3-2. But the Scrappers came right back to regain the lead with two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. They tied the game at three on an RBI base hit from Evan Frazar and took a 4-3 lead when Melvin Mercedes issued a bases loaded walk to Cody Elliott.

This night though would belong to Connecticut. Chad Wright led off the seventh inning being hit by a pitch, P.J. Polk followed by drawing a walk and Eugenio Suarez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jason King then came through with a two-run single through the right side giving the Tigers a 5-4 lead. They would add on more run in the seventh as well as an insurance run in the ninth to go on for the win. King finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBI's.

Melvin Mercedes earned his third win of the year, as he is now a perfect 3-0 on the year. Daniel Bennett picked up his sixth save, which is tied for second best in the New York-Penn League this season, while Danny Jimenez suffered the loss for Mahoning Valley.

The Tigers will continue their eight-game road trip tomorrow with the first game of a three-game series with the Hudson Valley Renegades. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
