Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY (July 10, 2013) - The start of the Renegades six-game homestand gave them a chance to get back on track at Dutchess Stadium after losing seven of their first 10 home games. However, it also meant a pair of series against two of the toughest teams in the league. On Wednesday night, the 'Gades felt the wrath of the Pinckney Division leading Jamestown Jammers in an 8-4 defeat. Once again, the problem was too little too late for Michael Johns' squad.
Hudson Valley had a decent opportunity against Jamestown lefty Cody Dickson in the first after a two out triple by Ty Young. Johnny Field then sent a hard line drive into center but Jacoby Jones snagged it for the final out. The Jammers got to Ben Griset in the top of the second, with all the damage coming with two outs. Three singles and a walk to Michael Fransoso led to an Adam Frazier two-run single that quickly made it 3-0.
Three more runs came across in the third after seven Jammers came to the plate. This time, two-out singles by Andrew Dennis and Jeff Roy doubled up the lead and made it a 6-0 deficit. In the bottom of the inning, Julian Morillo led off with an infield single to third base. Two batters later, Jonathan Qui̮̱onez provided some pop with his first home run of the year to cut the deficit to 6-2.
In the top of the seventh, the 4,227 fans in attendance at Dutchess Stadium got to witness a rare baseball event. After 'Gades reliver Rick Teasley walked Frazier to begin the inning, Jones rocketed an 0-2 pitch off the base of the center field wall. The ball caromed back towards the infield past the center fielder James Harris, and was too far for anyone to get off a relay throw in time. Jones first home run of the year was inside the park, and it gave the Jammers an 8-2 lead.
The Renegades mustered one more charge down to their final three outs in the ninth. Facing Brett McKinney, Field roped a double down the left field line to start things off. Oscar Hernandez followed in Qui̮̱onez' footsteps from earlier the evening and blasted his third home run over the left field wall to get the 'Gades back in the game at 8-4. A walk to John Alexander brought up Granden Goetzman, but the rally was extinguished with a 5-4-3 double play. James Harris then struck out looking on a 1-2 pitch to end the game and give the Jammers the first game of the series.
NOTES: The two home runs were just the second and third longballs hit by the Renegades at Dutchess Stadium...first baseman Darryl George had to leave the game after the fourth inning and was replaced by Alexander...Colton Reavis was the final pitcher used and threw 2.2 perfect innings of relief with one strikeout.
The series continues Thursday night at 7:05 PM in the middle game of three. The Renegades will look to get even and will send righty Austin Pruitt (0-0, 1.50 ERA) to the hill against the Jammers Chad Kuhl (0-0, 0.00 ERA). The first 1,500 fans 13 and older will receive a replica jersey courtesy of Thomas O' Miller. The games on Friday and Saturday night will feature fireworks after each game. And on Sunday, the first 1,000 kids 12 and under will receive a replica jersey presented by M&T Bank. Monday signals the end of the homestand with an 11:05 AM start time against the State College Spikes.
