CT Tigers Win in Walk off Fashion

Norwich, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (8-15) defeated the Williamsport Crosscutters (13-9) by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium in eleven innings. In the eleventh inning CF Austin Schotts (0-4) hit a sacrifice fly that scored pinch runner Tyler Gibson (0-0) to give the Tigers their second consecutive victory.

The Tigers led throughout the entire game. In the second inning C Austin Green (2-4) singled home 3B Brett Harrison (0-5) to puts the Tigers in front 1-0. In the third inning the Tigers added two more runs highlied by an RBI triple by 2B Dominic Ficociello (1-4 that scored LF Raph Rhymes (1-2) to take a 2-0 lead. Tigers added one in the seventh inning on a bases loaded walk to Rhymes that scored 1B Patrick Leyland (1-4) to take a 4-2 lead.

Down two runs in the ninth inning Williamsport rallied for two runs to even the score at 4-4. Highlighted by an RBI single from DH Andrew Knapp (1-3) that scored 3B Zach Green (2-4) to cut the lead at 4-3. The with Samuel Hiciano (0-4) up to bat winning pitcher RHP Scott Sitz (1-1) threw a wild pitch that scored pinch runner DH Gustafo Martinez (0-1) to tie the game at 4-4.

CT Tigers starter LHP Alex Phillips pitched well in a no decision pitching six innings allowing two runs on three hits. Phillips pitched the most innings thrown by a Tigers pitcher thus far this season.

The Tigers take on Williamsport in game two of their three-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. In game two of the series Connecticut LHP Kevin Ziomek (0-0, 2.225) is slated to face off against Williamsport RHP Yacksel (1-0, 3.12).
