Jam trounce Bounce on A-Train Night

From the opening tip-off the Jacksonville Jam controlled the game on court during a special night, which saw Artis Gilmore start the game at center for the Jam. Gilmore was greeted by a standing ovation at UNF Arena as his name was called to start for the Jam against the South Alabama Bounce. The 7'2-280 Gilmore did not disappoint as he controlled the opening tip-off and tipped the ball to a streaking TheAnthony Haymon, who took Gilmore's tip to open the game up to the basket with a high flying slam dunk that delighted all the fans in attendance. After three minutes of live action, Gilmore raised his fist to Jam head coach, Steve Tucker signaling it was time to call it a night. Gilmore stayed on the bench with the Jam during the first half and cheered on his Jam teammates, who totally controlled the play on court. Jacksonville opened up a 10 point lead in the first quarter and led 28-22 at the end of the first period of play.
In the second quarter Jam point guard, Anthony Lumpkin paced the way as the Jam's running game got going to streak the Jam out in front by 16 points at half-time as the Jam led 56-40 at the break. At half-time, the Jacksonville Jam organization retired Gilmore's #53 that he wore on the collegiate level at Jacksonville University and as a professional both in the NBA and ABA. The retirement ceremony was truly moving and the crowd once again gave the A-Train a standing ovation as he held the framed Jam #53 jersey over his head. Gilmore thanked the Jam ownership and organization for this honor. He also thanked the fans, who have supported his basketball efforts here in Jacksonville over the years. Gilmore especially thanked his family, who were in attendance in the crowd at the game. You could tell this truly meant a great deal to a basketball legend!
In the second half Jacksonville continued their sterling play on the night, which saw the Jam's defense hold the talented Bounce (3-3) to a 31% shooting percentage. The Jam also got outstanding play from forward, Jerry Williams, center, TheAnthony Haymon, and Lumpkin as they built a 29 point lead halfway through the fourth quarter and cruised on to a 113-87 victory, which pushes the Jam's record to 4-0 to start the ABA season.
Jacksonville had 7 players in double figures, led my Haymon's 21 point and 9 rebound effort and Williams 16 point and 10 rebound performance. Lumpkin also tossed in 17 points and dished out 5 assist. Myron Anthony contributed 14 points, Lorenzo Lawrence 13 points, Donald Harris 12 points, and Michael McCowan 10 points respectively.
The Jam will travel back to South Florida to face Palm Beach (1-1) on Tuesday night and will then host Palm Beach back here in Jacksonville on Friday night, November 24th at UNF Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05pm. Come join the FRIDAY NIGHT JAM!
JAM NOTES:
* Artis Gilmore's #53 is the first jersey to be retired in Jacksonville Jam history. Gilmore was voted as one of the Top 50 players to ever play in NBA History.
* The Jam now lead the Southeastern Division of the ABA with a 4-0 record.

* The Jacksonville Jam will welcome back starting power forward, DeRon Rutledge, who got married back in his hometown of Houston, TX over the weekend.
* Jam point guard, Derrick Williams has a knee sprain and is expected back in 7 to 10 days.
* The Jam welcome Trey Moore (6'4-180-Combo Guard-Mississippi State University) to the Jam Basketball Family. Moore will make his debut with the Jam this upcoming week.
