(Bakersfield, Calif. - January 11, 2010) - The Bakersfield Jam has acquired 2007-08 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year Blake Ahearn in a Monday morning trade with the Wizards, sending James "Boo" Jackson to Dakota.
Ahearn has been one of the best guards in the NBA D-League throughout his two-plus year career, posting averages of 20.7 points, 4.4 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game in 88 contests for Dakota and the Austin Toros. He has made an impressive 95.7% of his free throws in his NBA D-League career, and shoots a blistering 43.4% from long distance.
"We are excited to add Blake to our team," said Bakersfield Head Coach Will Voigt. "He is a talented player, and we expect him to add some leadership to the squad."
Ahearn was a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference First Teamer while at Missouri State, and earned MVP honors in the 2009 NBA D-League All-Star Game. He has also spent time in the NBA over the last several seasons, including a stint with the Miami Heat in 2007-08 and several games with the San Antonio Spurs in 2008-09.
Jackson was acquired in mid-December after his release from the Los Angeles D-Fenders, and contributed 11.0 points and 6.7 rebounds in 10 games (five starts) for the Jam.
"Boo has worked extremely hard," Voigt said. "He made an immediate impact upon arriving, and we wish him nothing but the best with his new team."
Ahearn is expected to be in uniform for the Jam's Thursday night matchup with the Utah Flash at the Jam Events Center.
