Albuquerque's Carlos Powell Named Performer Of The Week

NEW YORK, Jan. 11, 2010 - Carlos Powell of the Albuquerque Thunderbirds was today named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Jan. 4. Powell twice earned the award during the 2007-08 season.

Powell led Albuquerque to a 4-0 record, including two victories at the 2010 NBA D-League Showcase (over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Tulsa 66ers) and home wins over the Reno Bighorns and Utah Flash.

Powell averaged 20.0 points, shooting 43 percent (28-of-65) from the field, to go with 5.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds. The 6-7 forward out of South Carolina scored more than 20 points on three occasions, including a 25-point outing against the 66ers on Jan. 7.

Other top performers last week included Springfield's Morris Almond, who averaged 30.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in four games for the Armor; Dakota's Romel Beck, who averaged 26.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in four games for the Wizards; Austin's Alonzo Gee, who averaged 24.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in four games for the Toros; Rio Grande Valley's Garrett Temple, who averaged 20.0 points and 4.3 assists in four games for the Vipers; Idaho's Anthony Tolliver, who averaged 22.8 points and 12.8 rebounds in four games for the Stampede; and Sioux Falls' Reggie Williams, who averaged 27.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in four games for the Skyforce.
