BAKERSFIELD, December 10, 2011 - The Bakersfield Jam (5-1) defeated the visiting Texas Legends (1-5) 117-97 Saturday night. The Jam outscored the Legends 39-14 in the third quarter to overcome a 10 point halftime deficit (62-52) and cruise to a victory.
The Legends jumped out to an early lead to start the game, being up by as many as 16 points and shooting 53.3% compared to the Jam's 43.9% from the field in the first half. Bakersfield turned the game around in the third period, shooting 61.9% from the field and holding Texas to only 21.1%. The Jam outscored the Legends 18-2 in the paint and 10-0 on fast break during that decisive quarter. Osiris Eldridge further ignited the comeback with a rim-rocking reverse slam dunk at the 2:30 mark in the third. Bakersfield extended their lead to as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter and outscored Texas by 30 points (65-35) in the second half.
Eldridge led Bakersfield in scoring with 26 points on 10-for-17 shooting tonight. For a second straight game, David Palmer finished with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. In his first start of the season, Juan Pattillo had 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Mustapha Farrakhan added 15 points and handed out 8 assists. Anthony Harris contributed 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting off the bench.
All five Texas starters finished the game in double digits, led by Booker Woodfox with 22 points. Ramor Dyer scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Ronald Allen finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Anthony Vereen added 15 points. Vance Cooksey tallied a double-double of 10 points and 10 assists.
The Jam next travel to Idaho to face the Stampede on Wednesday, December 14 at 6 p.m. PT.
