Costner Erupts For 42 Points In D-Fenders Loss To Idaho

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - After losing six players to NBA training camp rosters yesterday and suiting up four new players, the Los Angeles D-Fenders fell 97-90 to the Idaho Stampede at the Toyota Sports Center. Brian Costner kept the D-Fenders within striking distance all game after he scored 42 points (14-28 FG, 11-14 FT) and pulled down eight rebounds on Saturday night. The 6-foot-9 forward tied Sean Banks (42 at IDA, 2/9/08) for the third most points scored in D-Fenders history, and scored over 30 for the third time this season.

Trailing by as many as 11, Costner cut the D-Fenders (6-3) deficit to 83-82 after he made a layup with 4:39 left in the fourth quarter. Eniel Polynice helped Costner's push as he totaled 17 points (7-13 FG, 2-3 3FG) and eight rebounds in 37:29 minutes - all season highs. Adding to the mix was Gerard Anderson, who finished with 11 points (4-6 FG) and seven rebounds.

Cheyne Gadson tallied 25 points (8-16 FG) and Tony Bobbitt finished with 18 points and six rebounds in the Idaho (2-4) win. Antoine Walker, who was added to the Stampede roster on Thursday, scored four points and added a team-high six assists in 30 minutes.

For Los Angeles, the loss marks its first in five games. The D-Fenders next play at home Monday, Dec. 12 when they take on Texas. For the first time ever, the D-Fenders are offering season ticket packages for the 2011-12 season that include special Lakers ticket purchase opportunities as well as various other incentives.
