HIDALGO, Texas - Omar Reed scored a team high 26 points off the bench to lead the Austin Toros to a 106-105 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Saturday night at the State Farm Arena. The Vipers fell to 5-4 on the season with the loss, while the Toros improved to 4-2 as the two Western Conference foes split their weekend series.

The Toros were able to take control after the early moments of the game. After falling behind 5-0 the Toros claimed their first lead by going on an 8-2 run to lead 8-7. The Vipers built the lead up to five at 15-10 with 7:38 remaining in the game after a pair of Jay-R Strowbridge free throws. The Toros responded with a 16-2 run, capped off by a Myles McKay lay-up giving the Toros a 26-17 lead. Austin led 33-24 after one.

In the second quarter the Toros scored the first five points to take their largest lead at 38-24. The Vipers would re-claim the lead after responding with a 23-6 run. Kelvin Lewis's three-pointer, one of four during the run, gave the Vipers a 47-44 lead. The Toros closed out the half on a 12-6 run to take a 56-53 lead at half time.

The Vipers looked strong to start the third as the two squads traded punches. Lee Humphrey's three with 4:05 to play in the third gave the Vipers a 72-69 lead. Austin responded by closing out the period on a 9-1 run to lead 78-72 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the Toros kept the Vipers from sustaining any type of extended run and seemingly put the game out of reach. With 3:22 to play Dan Vandervieren's jumper put Austin up 99-89. The Vipers made the final moments exciting. With Lewis hit his ninth three of the game to pull the Vipers within three. The Vipers though could not find the tying basket as Lewis could not find the hoop for his 10th three of the night to tie the game.

Lewis' nine threes tied a Vipers team record held by Ernest Scott set on March 5th, 2010 in Bakersfield. Lewis finished with a game-high 33 points. Stanley Asumnu pitched in 24 and 11 boards for his second straight double double. Suleiman Braimoh added another double-double for RGV with 14 points and 10 boards.

Terrance Woodbury chipped in with 18 points and 10 boards for Austin. Tristan Thompson scored 16 and finished three rebounds and three assists shy of a triple-double.

The two Western Conference foes match-up again next Friday night at the Cedar Park Center for the third of three straight match-ups between the two squads. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
