BAKERSFIELD - Jerel McNeal scored 28 points, dished out eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bakersfield Jam (22-9) to a 119-111 win over the visiting Maine Red Claws (19-17) on Friday.
Fresh out of All-Star break, the Jam came out on fire to begin the game as they shot 62% from the field and led by as many as 10 points in the first period. Up 34-30 to start the second quarter, Bakersfield stretched their lead to 13 points midway through the quarter but turnovers (15 in the first half) and missed free-throws slowed them down and saw their double-digit lead cut to two points to end the half (58-56). However, Bakersfield gained momentum back and took control in the second half as they led by as many as 15 points in the third and as many as 14 in the fourth. The Jam dominated the rebound department 56-37.
Damion James posted 22 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Jam. Renaldo Major scored 20 points while Adam Koch tallied 13 points. Brian Butch had a game-high 18 rebounds.
Maine was led by Shelvin Mack who scored a game-high 36 points to go along with 10 assists and three steals. Micah Downs had 16 points and DaJuan summers scored 12 points.
Bakersfield will stay home to face the Los Angeles D-Fenders tomorrow Saturday, February 23 at 7 p.m. PST.
