Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks welcomed division foe Canton to the Erie Insurance Arena on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 4,024. Following a back-and-forth first half, the BayHawks used a strong third quarter to down Canton by a final of 110-97.
Erie (19-15) led for much of the first quarter before a JuJuan Johnson basket sent the game into the second frame tied at 26. The lead changed hands four times and the two teams were tied a total of ten occasions in the second quarter but the BayHawks closed out the half on a 6-0 run to take a 59-53 lead into the break.
The BayHawks outscored Canton (20-14) by nine in the third quarter and held an 87-72 advantage heading into the final twelve minutes. After two minutes of play in the fourth quarter, Erie's Demonte Harper connected on an 18 foot jumper to give the BayHawks an 18 point lead, their largest of the game. The Charge cut the deficit to seven points with four minutes remaining but Erie pulled away down the stretch and finished off the Charge 110-97.
Erie's Kyle Goldcamp led all scorers with 19 points. D.J. Kennedy finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Harper also chipped in with 16, Cory Higgins scored 15 and Henry Sims helped with 12. Kyle Gibson led the Charge with 18 points, Arinze Onuaku scored 15 and Jorge Gutierrez finished with 14 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds.
The BayHawks return to action on Tuesday night in Fort Wayne at 7 PM. The Charge return home Thursday night to host the Idaho Stampede.
