Jam Crush Shorthanded Armor

March 13, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Bakersfield Jam News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Jam knew it had an opportunity when three Armor players showed up to Saturday night's game in street clothes, and the home team took advantage of it from start to finish in a 132-96 win over Springfield that stretched the Jam's season-high winning streak to four games.

The Jam set the tone early with a 27-18 first quarter, led by 18 points from the duo of Jeremy Wise (21 points, 5 assists, 4 steals) and Will Daniels who shot a combined 8-for-10 in the period. Daniels' hot shooting continued throughout the evening, as he finished with 20 points on 9-for-12 shooting to go with five rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

The Armor played without starting shooting guard Tre Whitted (who injured his toe in Friday night's game), backup point guard Abdullaih Jalloh (hurt when he ran into the backboard stanchion on Friday) and reserve forward Noel Felix (who re-aggravated an ankle injury). These health issues left Springfield with only one point guard and ball-handler in Kyle McAlarney (7 points, 6 assists, 4 steals) and forced head coach Dee Brown to play as many as four big men together against the fast, athletic Jam team. To make matters worse, the only other player in uniform with guard skills - former Jam allocation player Justin Hawkins - was ejected early in the fourth quarter.

Springfield was led by Marcus Campbell, who scored 20 points in the loss, and Dante Milligan's hard work shone across the stat sheet as he finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks before fouling out in the waning minutes. The Armor also got double-digit scoring efforts from both healthy bench players - 11 points and 11 rebounds from Kentrell Gransberry and 14 from Corey Minnifield.

Bakersfield, meanwhile, saw every healthy player reach double digits when Atila dos Santos (10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals) drained a jump hook in the final minute. Brian Butch notched his tenth straight double-double with an 18-point, 13-rebound performance, while Reece Gaines dropped nine dimes and grabbed three steals to go with his 18 points.

The Armor will fly back home to Springfield, where they host the Albuquerque Thunderbirds for Irish Heritage Night on Tuesday evening. Bakersfield will take the short trip to Los Angeles for a Tuesday afternoon meeting with the D-Fenders.
