Rio Grande Valley's Garrett Temple Signs With San Antonio Spurs

NEW YORK, March 13, 2010 - The San Antonio Spurs today signed rookie Garrett Temple of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, making him the 23rd GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA D-League season. Temple joins three other Spurs with NBA D-League experience.

Temple, a 6-5 guard out of Louisiana State, has started all 30 games in which he has appeared for the Vipers this season, averaging 14.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 34.9 minutes. He has scored in double figures 24 times, including a season-high 24 points, to go with six rebounds and five assists, in a 122-104 victory over the Iowa Energy on Jan. 10, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Today's call-up is Temple's third this season, he also signed with the Houston Rockets on Feb. 8 and the Sacramento Kings on March 3. In 14 NBA games this season for Houston and Sacramento, Temple averaged 4.0 points and 1.2 rebounds in 10.0 minutes. He scored an NBA career-high 11 points on two occasions.

A four-year contributor at LSU, Temple was named to the SEC All-Defensive team in 2008, and appeared in the NCAA'S Final Four in 2006. He averaged 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 35 games during his senior season.

Temple is expected to join the Spurs in San Antonio today and be in uniform tonight when the team hosts the Los Angeles Clippers at the AT&T Center.
