Dayton Gems News Release

DAYTON, OH - Dayton Gems goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has been named the Sher-Wood CHL Goaltender of the Month for February.

This is the second time the goaltender has been recognized with a CHL award. In mid-December, Jakaitis was named the goaltender of the week following a 4-0 win over Bloomington in which Jakaitis recorded 44 saves.

"This is definitely well deserved," said head coach Brian Gratz. "Jeff is one of the top goaltenders in the league and this is definitely an honor that he deserves."

In February, Jakaitis was in front of the goal in five games for the Gems. He amassed a 4-1-0 record for the month and held his opponent to two goals or less in four games.

En route to accumulating 204 saves for the Gems over the past month, Jakaitis also recorded an 8-0 shutout against Fort Wayne on Feb. 27. The shutout was his second of the season. His first shutout came in the Dec. 17 win over Bloomington.

In addition to playing for the Gems, Jakaitis also spent time in the AHL as well. Jakaitis was called up to the AHL from Feb. 16 through Feb. 25 and played three games for the Worcester Sharks, an affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks.

While in Worchester, MA, Jakaitis had 92 saves in 184 minutes of play while amassing a 1-2-0 record.

Jakaitis will be the Gems goaltender for tonight's game in Tulsa, OK. It will be the first time Jakaitis and the Gems have faced the Oilers this season.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
