Congressman Michael Turner Will Conduct Ceremonial Puckdrop this Sunday

March 3, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release

DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Gems have announced that Republican Congressman Mike Turner will be doing a ceremonial puckdrop at Hara Arena on Sunday, March 6, prior to the Gems game against Missouri at 5 p.m.

This will be the first time the Gems have had a congressman drop the puck prior to a game. Turner is one of just a few government leaders to do a puckdrop for the Gems. Others include Trotwood Mayor Joyce Cameron and Commissioner Debbie Lieberman.

Turner, a life-long resident of Dayton, is currently the Ohio Third District Representative to the United States Congress.

Prior to his current position, Turner also held a number of other political positions, including being the Mayor of Dayton from 1994-2002.

Turner is also a big sports fan. One of Turner's major projects during his time as the mayor of Dayton was erecting Fifth-Third Field, the minor league baseball stadium where the Dayton Dragons currently play.

In addition to the congressman being in attendance, Sunday is also a Kroger Family Day. Fans who show their Kroger Plus Card at the Box Office window will receive buy-one get-one free tickets. This is the last chance fans have to capitalize on this deal. This is the final Sunday game the Gems have for the remainder of the season.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
