ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (June 2, 2003) – Surf starter Andy Zwirchitz allowed just one hit and Brandon Jackson drove in four runs to lead the Atlantic City Surf over the Bridgeport Bluefish, 6-0, Monday evening at the Sandcastle.

Zwirchitz (pronounced "Squeez-itz") recorded 13 fly-ball outs and exceeded five innings pitched for the first time in four starts this season, tossing eight innings while striking out three and walking three. The lone hit the right-hander allowed was a bunt single in the third inning by the speedy Angel Espada.

After three and a half scoreless innings, Brandon Jackson laced a single into left field that scored Raul Marval and Ozzie Timmons to give the Surf a 2-0 lead.

Atlantic City tagged on four more runs after Eddie Lara led off the fifth inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ric Johnson, who ended up reaching first on an error by catcher Hector Kuilan. Marval scored Lara on a base hit and Johnson eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Emison Soto.

Jackson, the next batter, roped his third hit of the night to right field to drive in Marval and Timmons, who was intentionally walked, to give Atlantic City a decisive 6-0 lead.

Jackson's single in the second inning extended his consecutive on-base streak to 21 games.

Bridgeport starter Masaru Imazeki (3-1) allowed all six runs, three earned, through five innings while striking out three and walking two in picking up his first loss of the season.

Jackson paced the Surf in going 3-4 with 4 RBI while Marval added went 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Atlantic City improves to 15-14 on the season while the Bluefish drop to 13-15.

ON DECK: The Surf and the Bluefish will wrap up their series on Tuesday, June 3, for a School Person's Special, at 11:05 a.m., at the Sandcastle.
