Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors were outsluged by the Brockton Rox and lost 10-6 Monday night at Bicentennial Park.

Both teams finished the game with 13 hits, but the Rox hit three home runs to only one for the Ambassadors. The Rox took a 1-0 lead after the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Jermaine Swinton. But the Ambassadors struck back quickly, with a two-run home run from Vic Davilla, his second of the season.

Ambassador starter Tim Davidson could not hold back the Rox, who scored three in the top of the fourth. Nestor Smith led off with a single and after a Mike Davis flyout, Saul Bustos doubled. A walk to Swinton loaded the bases, and Craig Lewis delivered, with a two run double. Swinton was caught in a run-down between third and home and thrown out for the second out of the inning. Mike Torres then singled home Lewis to give the Rox a 4-2 lead.

The Rox stretched the lead to 5-2 with a solo home run from Willie Edwards in the fourth. The Ambassadors scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, with doubles from Ryan Bordenick and Brian Macchi, and a single from Julio Acosta. But the Rox would add another run on a Melvin Rosario solo home run in the sixth to stretch the lead to 6-4. The Ambassadors closed to within a run with a run in the eighth, but four Brockton runs in the top of the ninth put the game out of reach. The Ambassadors added another run in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough to prolong the game.

Joey Baker got the win for the Rox, his first of the season, despite giving up 4 runs on 10 hits in six innings. Tim Davidson took the loss, his first, giving up 6 runs, 5 earned, in 6 six innings. Conor Brooks picked up his third save. Craig Lewis had a big night for the Rox, going 3-4 with two doubles, a home run, 2 runs scored and four RBI. Ryan Bordenick was 3-5 with a double, triple and a run scored in defeat for the Ambassadors.

The two teams go back at it tomorrow night at 7:05, Rodney Allen scheduled to face John Dillinger. The game will be broadcast on Service Electric TV-2.
