Berkshire Black Bears News Release

The Berkshire Black Bears recorded their second win of the season, and second in as many games, as they defeated Les Capitales de Quebec 5-3 Monday night.

The Home Opener of the 2003 season was a good one for the Black Bears, right-handed ace Rick Guttormson went the distance, throwing a complete game to pick up his first win of the season. A swagger of confidence was evident from the Boys from Pittsfield following Sunday's win at Allentown. Guttormson, who struck out 8 batters on the night, was aided by some stellar defensive plays tonight, Kevin Forbes made a diving catch near the foul line in right field, and Ricky even helped himself out, starting a rare 1-2-3 double play. Offensively the Black Bears produced a team effort; five different players scored runs as six different Berkshire hitters pounded out 10 hits. The one highlight for Quebec was a 2-run blast in the sixth inning, from new acquired outfielder Carlos Rodriguez, playing in his first game for Les Capitales.

The win was exactly what Berkshire needed, after starting the year 0-9, they have won 2 in a row, kicking off their 7-game home stand in impressive form.
