Keith Maxwell was 2-for-4 with three RBI and four pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Jackals defeated the North Shore Spirit 4-0 last night at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls.
Mike Glendenning and Carlos Pagan gave the Jackals a 1-0 lead in the second inning, hitting back-to-back doubles off Spirit starter Miguel Baez. Two batters later Maxwell drove in his first run with a single.
The game remained 2-0 until the bottom of the eighth. Pagan led off the inning with a walk off reliever Derrick DePriest. Then, after Pagan moved to second on a groundout Chris Rowan reached on an error. Rowan would steal second to put runners at second and third for Maxwell, who responded with a two-run single to left.
New Jersey starter Aaron Myers (2-1) pitched five strong innings, allowing three hits, two walks while striking out four. The Jackals (7-3) bullpen came in and shut the door after that as Ben Grezlovski, Matt Pike and Julio Perez combined to throw four no-hit innings, striking out five. New Jersey's bullpen has not allowed a hit in nine consecutive innings.
Baez (0-1) took the loss for North Shore (3-6), surrendering two runs on four hits, four walks while striking out eight in 5 2/3 innings.
