
JackHammers Lose Against Winnipeg Friday

JOLIET-The Joliet JackHammers yielded six runs over the course of the first four innings and could not recover as the Winnipeg Goldeyes beat the JackHammers 9-4 at Silver Cross Field before 5,424 fans.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes started off the scoring with two runs in the first inning against Joliet starter Roger Luque. He walked Fehlandt Lentini to lead off the game, who went to second base on a single by Sean Walsh, and scored when Jimmy Hurst reached base on an error by the JackHammers short stop Chad Ehrnsberger. Lentini scored to make it 1-0 Winnipeg.
Walsh moved up to third base on the play. He scored when Keith Maxwell hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.
The Goldeyes scored one run in the third inning against Luque. The former Goldeye departed after three and one-thirds innings and took the loss (3-1) in giving up six runs on nine hits.
Eric Fussell came into the game worked three scoreless innings, shutting down the Winnipeg offense in the fifth inning.
It was the fifth inning where the JackHammers went to work. Jayson Drobiak doubled, went to third base on a wild pitch by Josh Beshears (4-0). Drobiak scored when Kyle Nichols hit a two-run home run against the Winnipeg right-hander who came into the game with a miniscule 0.53 E.R.A. The JackHammers whittled the lead down to 6-2 for Winnpeg.
Bubba Smith hit an RBI double in the sixth inning for the Joliet JackHammers to bring the lead down to 6-3. J.D. Foust hit his second home run of the season to pull the JackHammers within two runs at 6-4.
The JackHammers and Goldeyes continue their three-game series Saturday night at Silver Cross Field. The pre-game show begins at 6:50 and the first pitch is at 7:05 on 1340 WJOL. Brad Morenko (2-3, 5.17) starts for Joliet against Winnipeg's David Glick (0-1, 11.37). It's Choppers and Hammers Night at the ballpark presented by Prison City Choppers and Fireworks. There will also be a post-game fireworks display at the ballpark. Loose Gravel: Eric Fussell's three scoreless innings pushes his consecutive scoreless inning streak to six and two-thirds innings. Bubba Smith racked up an RBI to give him five total RBI's in four games on the homestand.
