Flyers Snake Bitten

Schaumburg Flyers News Release

The Flyers day started out badly when their flight was delayed by an hour and fifteen minutes from Chicago to Calgary. Things didn't get much better at the game as the Vipers handed the Flyers their tenth loss on the year 14-4 at Foothills Stadium.

After the Flyers were put away in order to start the game, the Vipers came up in the bottom half of the first inning and made the score 2-0 before anyone had a chance to realize what happened. Manabu Kuramochi singled into left field and then was followed by a homerun by Carlos Duncan over the left field wall. So just like that, the Flyers were playing from behind once again.

Schaumburg looked as though the game was going to be a good one when they picked up one run in the top of the second inning on a double into left field by Josue Lopez, driving in Eric Cole who led off the inning with a single. This is the closest the Flyers would ever be to the Vipers the rest of the game.

The Vipers went on to score four runs in both the second and third innings with bases loaded doubles in each inning respectively. Nelson Castro had the big double in the second innning, with Sam Rosario taking his turn in the third inning. The score was 10-1 after the first three innings of play.

The Flyers were able to pick up two more runs in the top of the fourth inning when Lopez and Ben Van Iderstine came around to score after walking and doubling, but the fourth inning is when the game got interesting.

Ryan Walker, the back up catcher, came in for relief of starter Raymond Jenkis. Walker actually did a good job, only giving up four runs over the last five innings of the game. Walker ended up outpitching Jenkins in the ballgame, and it was his very first appearance of this season, possibly his career out on the mound.

Though Walker did pitch well, the Flyers offense never came alive enough to come back from such a large deficit. They would end up losing the game 14- 4. Game two of this three game series is tomorrow, June 17, at 1:05 Mountain Time. The Flyers wont be back to Alexian Field until June 27, when they'll face the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
