
Yankees sign Flyers southpaw

The Schaumburg Flyers have sold the contract of pitcher R.J. Swindle to the New York Yankees, announced by the club today.
Swindle has become a mainstay in the Flyers starting rotation since his arrival in 2005. In 2005, Swindle emerged as one of the best new pitchers in the Northern League, going 6-4 with a 3.27 ERA in 16 starts for the Flyers. This season, Swindle is 2-2 in five starts for the Flyers, with a 3.41 ERA in 31.2 innings of work. Swindle has struck out 22 batters against eight walks this season. Swindle holds a career ERA of 2.96.
Swindle came to the Flyers in April 2005, after an outstanding debut in the Boston Red Sox organization at Class A Lowell. Went 5-1 in the New York-Penn League with a 1.94 ERA. He was drafted in the 14th round of the 2004 Free Agents Draft by the Boston Red Sox. Swindle played college ball at Charleston Southern, earning Big South Conference MVP honors as a sophomore.
