Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Greenville, SC - Daniel Cook's single off the left field wall in the 15th inning provided the game-winning run in an 8-6, 15-inning Augusta GreenJackets victory over the Greenville Drive on Saturday night.
With Nick Liles at second, Cook drilled a single to break a 6-6 tie. Later in the inning, Chris Dominguez's two-out single provided an insurance run and put the GreenJackets up a pair.
The GreenJackets led 6-0 all the way to the seventh-inning stretch. Evan Crawford brought home a pair in the third on a triple to right and scored on Ryan Cavan's sacrifice fly. Augusta would tack on a run in each the fifth, sixth and seventh innings on run-scoring singles from Dominguez, Liles and Tommy Joseph respectively.
BJ Salsbury was in command through the first six innings, allowing just three baserunners, before the wheels came off in the seventh. Two hits led to a sacrifice fly and the first Greenville run of the game. After the GreenJackets left the bases full to end the eighth, Greenville sent ten to the plate in the home half of the inning and scored five times on seven hits and a walk to tie things at six. Zach Gentile's two-run single off Devan Kline proved to be the equalizer for the Drive.
The Drive had the bases full in each the 10th and 11th innings. The threat in the 10th ended on a double play ball while a groundout ended things in the 11th. Until the Jackets' three-hit outburst in the 15th, their only hit in extras was a Cavan single in the 10th.
Hector Correa (1-0) fired a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts to get his first win of the year. Brian Irving struck out the side in a scoreless, hitless 15th to earn his first save of the season. Jordan Flasher (3-1) allowed three hits and both runs in the top of the 15th to take his first loss of the year.
The GreenJackets will look to take three of four from the Drive with Jeremy Toole (0-0, 1.93) on the mound against Manuel Rivera (2-3, 2.92) in the series finale. First pitch in Greenville will come at 4:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 3:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
