Jackals Weekend Preview

Elmira Jackals News Release


Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals, winners of seven of their past 10 games, have a busy weekend ahead with three match ups against three divisional foes. Starting on Friday evening the Jackals host the Johnstown Chiefs at First Arena at 7:35 p.m. On Saturday the Jackals travel to Wheeling for a 7:35 p.m. tilt before hosting the Trenton Devils on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. With only eight points separating first and sixth place in the North Division, points are at a premium.

Noise in the North: Coming into the weekend the 24-19-1-3 Jackals hold down fourth place in the North Division. The Jackals trail the 26-16-2-0 Johnstown Chiefs and the 24-14-2-4 Wheeling Nailers by a mere two points in the standings. The Jackals also hold a five point cushion on the 22-17-1-2 Trenton Devils.

Familiar Faces: With 25 games remaining on the 2008-2009 schedule, the Jackals don't play any more games outside of the division. Starting on Friday the Jackals will match up against Johnstown seven more times, Wheeling four more times and Trenton makes three more appearances at First Arena.

How They Match Up: The Jackals have put together a 3-3-1-0 record against the Chiefs, a 2-3 record against the Nailers and a 5-5 record against the Devils.

Picking Up Steam: The Jackals scoring department has turned it on over the past 10 games netting 36 goals. Forward Pierre-Luc Faubert has lead the team in scoring during this stretch with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Benoit Doucet registered 10 points in the past 10 games to the tune of six goals and four assists. Moises Gutierrez was also a 10 point player during this stretch with three goals and seven assists.

New Numbers: The Jackals acquired Shawn Snider from Reading last week, he netted a goal in each game last weekend for the Jackals. Forward Colton Yellow Horn will be in the line up this weekend, he will wear jersey number 15.

Goal Keepers: The Jackals have seen a handful of different net minders this season. Mitch O'Keefe returns to the club after spending time with the Jackals AHL affiliate Binghamton Senators. The Jackals no longer have David Shantz who was recalled by the Florida Panthers and then reassigned to the Dayton Bombers. Elmira is still the home to Michael Teslak who has performed very well since his return to the Twin Tiers, compiling a 4-1 record in his past five games.
