Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Idaho Steelheads erased a big first period deficit to take a 4-3 win over the Bakersfield Condors before 3,556 fans at Rabobank Arena on Wednesday night.
The Condors (14-26-6, 34pts) jumped out to a quick lead, scoring twice in the first six minutes. F Matt Pope notched his team-leading 25th of the season at 3:59. Just 1:58 later, the Condors lit the lamp on the power play, as D Jay Langager (right) ripped home his second of the year to make it 2-0. LW Mark Derlago snapped home his 14th of the season with less than two minutes left, on another power play, to put Bakersfield up, 3-0, after 20 minutes. The Condors led in shots, 13-12, in the frame, with G Yutaka Fukufuji making 12 saves, opposed to G Matt Climie's 10 for the Steelheads.
The lead didn't last. Idaho (25-14-3, 53pts) stormed back to beat Fukufuji three times in the middle frame, after pelting him with 17 shots in the period. D Kory Scoran, F Bryan McGregor and RW Garrett Bembridge each scored for the Steelheads to erase the deficit and tie the game up, 3-3.
Time sped off the clock in a quick moving third period that also saw few scoring opportunities. But Idaho finally pushed in front, taking their first lead of the game with just 5:45 left in regulation. Bembridge notched his second of the night, sneaking a low wrist shot home for the game winner. Derlago had a chance to tie it up for Bakersfield late, but Climie stopped him on a penalty shot. A furious finish could not provide the equalizer, and the Condors fell, 4-3. Notes from the Nest: The Condors remain at home for a pair of games this weekend.
