Condors acquire LaPointe from Dayton
February 5, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, announced today they have acquired C Dan LaPointe from the Dayton Bombers in exchange for future considerations. Additionally, the Condors have traded D Martin Frechette to the Mississippi Sea Wolves to complete the deal that brought RW Mike Wirll to Bakersfield on Nov. 27. Both announcements were made by Head Coach Marty Raymond.
LaPointe, 24, has skated in 43 games with the Bombers this season, accumulating 23 points (10g-13a) and 51 PIM. He totaled 15 points (10g-5a) and 42 PIM in 29 games with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in the Central Hockey League in 2007-08, and also notched an assist in two games with the Oklahoma City Blazers (CHL) last season.
After making his professional debut in a four-game stint with the Toledo Storm (ECHL) during the 2004-05 season, the 6-foot-1-inch, 200-pound native of Victoria, British Columbia, spent the subsequent two seasons at the University of Calgary in the Canadian Intercollegiate Sport (CIS) conference. In 63 games with the Dinos, LaPointe tallied 28 points (14g-14a) and 82 PIM. He also spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League from 2001-05.
"I'm from Victoria so it's great for me to come back to the West Coast, and I'm excited to get out to Bakersfield," said LaPointe. "Hopefully I can help the team get some wins and carry it on to the playoffs."
Frechette, 22, has skated in 39 games with the Condors this season, totaling 16 points (7g-9a) and 85 PIM. Since joining the Condors, Wirll has 15 points (7g-8a) in 17 games, and has 26 points (9g-17a) in 31 games overall this season.
What Coach Raymond says:
"Dan is a gritty forward who brings some more size to our lineup and also has a scoring touch," Raymond said. "With Martin, we felt it was time to make a move and that we had to make some changes. He has been good, but we're looking at different options."
