July 18, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ â The Jackals were victorious over the Brockton Rox, 4-1, taking their three game series by winning the final two games.
New Jersey has now taken six of nine from Brockton in the 2004 season.
Brockton jumped on top early against Jackals starter Aaron Myers. An RBI single by Brian Jones pushed across Nestor Smith.
Their lead would not last for long. With Chris Rowan at third, Mike Bassett reached on an error, allowing Rowan to score. With two outs, and runners at first and second, Juan Infante lashed a triple into the left centerfield gap, scoring two, and giving the Jackals a 3-1 advantage.
In the third, the Jackals would tack on one more against Brockton's Derek Anderson. With the bases full, Craig Conway grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Kevin Grijak. Through three, the Jackals led 4-1.
From that point on, pitching took over for both sides. Derek Anderson retired 16 consecutive Jackals, and Aaron Myers had a streak of retiring 13 out 14 Rox that he faced.
New Jersey starter Aaron Myers pitched seven innings, giving up one earned run on seven hits, while striking out seven. He has now won four games this season. Fabricio Benitez was awarded his seventh save of the season, pitching a perfect ninth inning.
Derek Anderson went eight innings for the Rox, giving up six hits, leading to four earned runs. He was the loser.
For New Jersey, Juan Infante was 1-4 with a two RBI triple.
Abner Arroyo was 2-3 with a single and a double, for the Rox.
