New Haven County Cutters News Release

(West Haven, CT- July 18, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters (26-24, 1-2) made the most of timely hits to salvage the final game of the three-game series against the Bangor Lumberjacks (27-22, 2-1) 2-1 at Yale Field.

With the Cutters trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth and two outs, Darren Ciraco blasted his second home run of the season to the opposite field over the short porch in right field with a runner aboard. This gave New Haven a lead they would not relinquish 2-1.

New Haven Starter Skip Wiley retired 21 of the 25 batters he faced in the matinee game. Wiley recorded his third win of the season with a seven inning, two hit, one run performance.

Bangor would threaten in eighth when they loaded the bases with two outs and Jarvis Brown called on his closer, Shane Waroff, for a four-out save. Waroff got out of the jam and slammed the door in the ninth to get his tenth save of the season.

Hector Lebron extended his home hitting streak to 11-games with a 2-for-4 day at the plate.

Outside of Shin Uchino and Donnie Ross, The New Haven pitchers held Bangor hitless in 24 plate appearances.
