New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ On Thursday evening, the Jackals got the hits, but could not score the runs in both regulation and extra baseball. Worcester came up with the big knock in the clutch, to defeat the New Jersey Jackals 3-2 in 11 innings.

New Jersey starter Aaron Myers got off to a rocky start. The first batter he faced, Josh Beauregard, took him yard, giving Worcester the early lead.

But the Jackals battled back in the top of the third inning, as they took advantage of control problems by Worcester's Junior Guerrero. Guerrero walked two in the inning, and with the bases loaded, Alex Fernandez collected a sacrifice fly. The next batter, Guillermo Reyes, stroked a double to surge the Jackals ahead 2-1.

Guerrero and Myers then engaged in an exciting pitchers' duel. Both teams had their respective chances to add to their totals, but both pitchers worked amazingly under pressure

Neither team posted a run until the bottom of the eighth, when an error squandered the one-run Jackal lead. With Keith Beauregard aboard first, Jabe Bergeron single into centerfield. Zack Smithlin bobbled the ball, allowing Bergeron to score and even up the game.

The game went into extra innings. After a scoreless tenth, the Tornadoes faced New Jersey reliever Jared Brown in the eleventh. Brown loaded the bases with a hit batter, a walk, and an intentional walk. With one out, Brian Rios singled down the left field line to score the winning run.

Worcester's Junior Guerrero pitched seven full innings, while allowing nine hits, leading to two earned runs. He walked four, struck out five, and tossed 117 pitches, 76 of them for strikes. He received a no decision. Dallas Mahan received the win in relief.

Aaron Myers lasted eight innings for the Jackals. He allowed two runs, both earned, on nine hits, while walking one and striking out one. He also received a no decision. The loss went to reliever Jared Brown.
