
Jackals split double dip with Rox; eliminated from playoff contention

Little Falls, NJ Despite splitting a doubleheader from the Brockton Rox, the New Jersey Jackals were eliminated from 2006 playoff contention, on the last day of the regular season. Via Quebec's eighth inning comeback versus Sussex, the Jackals were mathematically eliminated.
In game one, the Jackals scored five runs in the first two innings, as they eventually defeated the Rox 7-2.
New Jersey took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Following an error that allowed Jason Tuttle to reach, John Lindsey doubled him home, and Alex Fernandez chipped in with an RBI single to give the Jackals the early lead.
They added three more runs off of Brockton starter Rolando Viera in the second. An RBI single by Tuttle, an RBI double by Guillermo Reyes, and an RBI groundout by Wilton Veras put the Jackals ahead by five.
In the fifth, Bill Peavey cracked a two-run homerun, his first since July 21st, extending the Jackal advantage to 7-0.
Brockton scraped across single runs in the fifth and the sixth. RBI singles by Francisco Lebron and Eugene Julien brought the Rox within five, but they would get no closer.
Raul Valdez collected the win for the Jackals. He tossed 79 pitches in five innings of work, while allowing just one earned run on five hits. He struck out three and walked three.
The loss went to Brockton's Rolando Viera. He was lit up for five runs, three earned, on six hits, in four innings of work. He walked two and collected no strikeouts.
Jackal closer Jason Wylie imploded in the seventh inning of game two, allowing the Rox to win 6-5.
The Rox got on the board first in the bottom of the second. With the win blowing out towards right-center, Jason Radwan took a pitch that way and out of the ballpark, for a 1-0 lead.
The slim lead didn't last for long, as the Jackals collected a solo blast of their own. Guillermo Reyes put one over the right field wall to level the playing field.
Brockton forged ahead in the fourth with another solo homerun, this time by Eugene Julien, but the lead wouldn't last long. A Reyes RBI double in the top half of the fifth, evened the score again.
The Jackals took the lead again in the sixth, as a Eugene Julien error allowed John Linsdey to score.
Two runs of insurance scored in the top half of the seventh on Bill Peavey's two RBI single.
But closer Jason Wylie imploded in the ninth. He allowed four runs, in effect handing over the win to the Rox.
