
Rox split doubleheader against New Jersey on the final day of the

BROCKTON, MA - A four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game of a season-ending doubleheader allowed the Brockton Rox to close the 2006 regular season on a winning note with a doubleheader split against the New Jersey Jackals at Campanelli Stadium before a Labor Day crowd of 3,190. The Rox dropped the first game 7-2 while they captured Game 2 by a 6-5 final. The Rox finish the 2006 regular season with a 49-43 overall record (3rd Place) and a 25-21 record in the second half (4th Place). On Wednesday, the Rox begin postseason play with Game 1 of a five-game series with the New Haven County Cutters at Yale Field in West Haven, CT at 7:05 PM.
The Jackals scored two unearned runs against Rox LHP Rolando Viera in the first inning of Game 1 and led from wire-to-wire. Jackal DH John Lindsey continued a strong series with an RBI double in the first inning, while Jackal 1B Bill Peavey hit a two-run HR for New Jersey in the fifth. Both 1B Francisco Lebron and LF Jeff LaRue had two hits for the Rox. Lebron and 2B Eugene Julien had the only two RBI in the game for Brockton.
In the second game, C Jason Radwan homered off RHP Joel Bennett to give the Rox an early lead in the second game, but the lead was short- lived- SS Guillermo Reyes homered against RHP Wayne Lundgren to open the third, tying the game at one. In the fourth, SS Eugene Julien hit his first career HR, a solo shot to left, giving Brockton the lead. Julien's HR was his first in 584 career AB. Again, the Jackals tied the game with a run in the fifth inning.
The Jackals struck for a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to jump in front 5-2. In the seventh, DH Guye Senjem and Lebron singled to open the inning. CF Keith Brachold ripped an RBI single to left-center to plate a run, and 3B Mike Torres tied the game two pitches later with a two-run double to left. Torres scored later in the frame on a pair of wild pitches, giving the Rox the come-from- behind victory.
RHP Brad Guy (9-5, 2.93 ERA) earns the Game 1 start for the Rox against New Haven County at 7:05 PM on Wednesday. In the other playoff series, North Shore hosts Quebec.
