Lantigua, Hall named Can-Am League players of the week

DURHAM, NC--The Can-Am League's official statistician, Sportsticker, has selected Quebec 1B Eddie Lantigua and New Haven County RHP Courtney Hall as the Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of August 28-September 3. This is the second straight week a Captiales' player has earned a player of the week honor.

Lantigua on the week went 13-for-21 (.619) with one home run, six RBIs, and seven runs scored as the Capitales are currently holding down the fourth and final playoff spot in the Can-Am League. Saturday, in a 13-3 rout of the Sussex Skyhawks, Lantigua went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBIs, and a home run. He is first in the league with a .343 batting average and a .422 on-base percentage and is second in RBIs with 60.

The Quebec City, QC resident was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in March of 1991. During his 15-year professional career, Lantigua has spent time playing in the Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organizations. He also has been in the independent leagues with Sioux Falls, Fargo-Moorhead, Duluth, and his current team, Quebec.

Hall was 2-0 this past week allowing no earned runs on only three hits with 11 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings pitched. The Edmonds, WA resident currently has a record of 5-4 with a 3.61 ERA and has 86 strikeouts in 109 2/3 innings pitched.

The 27-year-old was signed by Yuba-Sutter of the independent Western League in July of 2002 out of UNLV. He also pitched with other independent clubs such as Berkshire, Mid-Missouri, and his current team, New Haven County. For the Cutters' in 2005, Hall had a 6-4 record with an earned run average of 4.37 in 20 games. He also compiled 54 strikeouts in 94 2/3 innings pitched.
