New Jersey Jackals News Release

Brockton, MA - Behind a season-high three home runs, the New Jersey Jackals defeated the Brockton Rox 5-4 in a twelve inning contest that included a 40 minute third-inning rain delay on Friday night at Campanelli Stadium.

With second baseman Marcus Sanders aboard in the top of the sixth inning, catcher Matt Lauderdale hit his second home run of the season to give the Jackals a 2-1 lead. Brockton then plated a run in the bottom of the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, which New Jersey countered with a score in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Juan Tejeda. Brockton lead 4-3 after eight innings.

Leading off the top of the ninth, third baseman Chris Kelly connected on his fifth homer of the season to send the game into extra innings tied at four.

In the top of the 12th, designated hitter Craig Maddox's third home run of the season gave the Jackals a 5-4 lead. Closer Rusty Tucker entered in the bottom of the frame and retired the Rox in order to earn his sixth save of the year.

In a game that began as a pitcher's duel, neither starter factored into the decision. New Jersey right-hander Juan Done allowed just two earned runs on six hits over seven innings while walked a batter and striking out four. Brockton's Steve Delabar surrendered a first-inning double to right fielder Luke Allen with two outs before settling down to retire the next 15 batters he faced. Delabar went 6 1/3 innings and surrendered three runs on four hits in his Rox debut. Justin Barnes (1-0) threw three scoreless innings in relief to earn the win for New Jersey, while Brockton's Mike McTamney (0-4) was tagged with the loss.

In his Jackals debut, Vic Davilla started in left field and went 0-5. Brockton center fielder Ervin Alcantara had a good night at the plate, going 3-6 with a run scored and an RBI. Both teams' records now stand at 13-14.

The Jackals and Rox continue their three-game series tomorrow night at 6:05 when Isaac Pavlik takes the hill against Brockton ace John Kelly. Catch every pitch via live webcast at www.jackals.com with coverage beginning ten minutes prior to the start of the game.
