New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ- The New Jersey Jackals rebounded with a 4-1 victory over the Elmira Pioneers, at Dunn Field.
New Jersey got on the scoreboard in the top of the first. After Chris Rown and Kevin Grijak were hit by pitches from Elmira starter Saul Solveson, Wilton Veras reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Chris Rowan to score.
Their lead would disappear in the bottom half of the inning. Dytarious Edwards singled to lead the game off for the Pioneers. Edwards then scored on what should have been a routine bunt off the bat of Cleatus Davidson, when Scott Goodman could not handle the throw at first.
The Jackals retook the lead later in the ballgame, in the top of the sixth. Chris Rowan led off with a single, and with two outs, Wady Almonte reached on an error by Elmira third baseman Dennis Abreu. Scott Goodman then singled for his sixteenth RBI of the season.
In the top of the eighth, New Jersey added two more insurance runs. Wady Almonte doubled, scoring Kevin Grijak. Scott Goodman then walked, and was pinch run for by Zack Smithlin. Smithlin then broke for second base, and was caught in a rundown, allowing Almonte to score, and giving the Jackals a 4-1 lead late.
Starting Pitcher Aaron Myers pitched a superb ballgame. Myers pitched six innings, while giving up one earned on six hits, and striking out seven. He won his second ballgame of the year. Reliever Evan Neiser pitched a flawless seventh and eighth inning, while striking out two. Neiser has not given up an earned in his last 16 and one third innings of work. Fabricio Benitez picked up his fourth save of the season.
Elmira starter Saul Solveson was awarded a very difficult loss, while pitching seven and two third innings, while giving up only one earned run on seven hits.
Chris Rowan went 2-3 for New Jersey with two runs scored. Wady Almonte was also 2-4 with a double, one RBI, and a run scored.
For Elmira, Jason Bryan was 1-3 with a double.
