Lynn, MA– Spirit starter Aaron Dean and Capitales hurler Jess Turner battled in a classic pitcher's duel in game 2 of the doubleheader at Fraser Field. A second inning run nudged across by the Spirit on three singles provided the early margin for the division-leading North Shore.

Aaron Dean threw 5 scoreless innings, giving up only 1 hit, while walking 3 and striking out 3 Capitales. Dean retired 11 of the last 12 batters he faced in his best outing of the season. Again, Ryan Bicondoa came in and closed out the Capitales in the 7th to record his second save of the night and tenth of the season.

The sole run of the game was scored in the second inning. Travis Oglesby led off the inning with a single to left centerfield. Brian Macchi followed with a single to centerfield and Onix Mercado flied to center, advancing Oglesby to third and Macchi to second. Yuri Sanchez collected the RBI with a single to score Oglesby.

The Spirit tallied six runs in the game and third baseman Nelson Teilon went 2-3. The Capitales were held to only two hits from Buck McNabb and Justin Wendt.

In game one, a late rally by the North Shore Spirit, capped by Rob Fischer's sixth inning solo homerun, gave the Spirit their league-leading 26th win of the season with a 4-3 triumph over the Quebec Capitales.

After trailing early in the game 3-0, Fischer finished the Spirit comeback with his 3rd homer of the season on a 1-0 pitch from Quebec starter Lance Franks.

In game one of the twinbill, the Quebec Capitales jumped on Spirit starter Jeremy Sugarman (8-0) for three runs in the first inning. Northeast League All-Star Buck McNabb hit a two-run double and scored on a Shane Hopper single to help the Capitales gain the early lead.

Capitales starter Lance Franks settled into a groove early, getting through the first 4 innings of the game with yielding a run and only 3 hits. The Spirit got on the board in the fifth when Brian Macchi hit his second homerun of the season to left after Travis Oglesby had led off the inning with a double down the leftfield line. Yuri Sanchez followed with a triple and later tied the score when he came home on Nelson Teilon's fielder's choice.

Jeremy Sugarman settled down after giving up three runs in the first inning by retiring 15 out of his next 16 batters. Sugarman went 6 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on seven hits, while striking out four Capitales batters. Ryan Bicondoa came in and recorded the final two outs of the game for his ninth save.

The Spirit and the Capitales face off again Wednesday at 7:05 PM at the New Fraser Field in Lynn. Spirit lefty Bryan Morse (4-1) will take on Danny Prata (3-2) in the final home game of the first half for the Spirit. After the series finale Wednesday, the Spirit head off to Bangor to face the Lumberjacks for 4 games and then finish up the first half up in Quebec with three games against the Capitales.
