New Haven County Cutters News Release

West Haven, CT- The New Haven County Cutters (20-18) broke out of their recent skid with a 6-2 victory over the Bangor Lumberjacks (20-18) at Yale Field in a truly bazaar game.

After the Lumberjacks tied it at one in the top of the third inning, the Cutters responded in their half. Jose Mateo walked to lead off the inning and then Gavin Fingleson layed down a bunt that he beat out to first base. On the play, Lance Calmus, who was covering first on the drag bunt, misplayed the ball allowing Jose Mateo to advance to third base. One batter later, Hector Lebron grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Mateo. With two down in the inning, Lance Calmus issued two 2-out walks and hit a batter to plate another run. Ryan Kane followed with a two out RBI single with the bases loaded and Billy Rich was thrown out at third, which beat the second run to the plate ending the inning with the Cutters on top 4-1.

With one down and the score now 4-2, Hector Lebron popped up with the bases loaded to shortstop that Shin Uchino couldn't catch. The infield fly rule was in effect and PJ Johsnton scored from third base on the misplay. Jose Mateo tried to advance to third and was thrown out for the final out of the inning.

Northeast League Batter of the Week Jimmy Hurst extended his hitting streak to ten games with an RBI single in the sixth. Hurst was 1-for-3 on the night.

Billy Rich reached base all three times he came to the plate, he was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.

Ryan Bonesio (3-2) went six innings and gave up two earned runs and five hits for the victory.

Bangor Pitching Coach Kevin Pincavitch and Cutters Catcher Nick Hiter were both ejected from the ball game.

The Cutters lead in the South Division is two games with eight games to play in the first half.
