Cutters Jimmy Hurst Wins Batter Of The Week Award

(West Haven, CT- July 6, 2004) The Northeast League named New Haven Slugger Jimmy Hurst as the league's Batter of the Week award winner.

Hurst, the first offensive Cutters player to be recognized with a weekly Northeast League award, went 10-for-23 good for a .435 batting average. Half of the 6'6" 250 pounders hits were for extra bases, three homeruns and two doubles. The Tuscaloosa, AL native drove in and scored five runs in the week while posting a .913 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base percentage.

Hurst leads the team in homeruns (7), RBI (19) and Slugging Percentage (.559). The former Triple Crown Winner in the Atlantic League ('02 Newark) is currently on an eight game hit streak and over the last 13 games he has hit for a .347 batting average with 11 extra-base hits and RBI.

Tony Harden was the first Cutters player to be honored with a weekly league award when he was named Pitcher of the Week in the fourth week of the season.

The Cutters are in the midst of a seven game homestand through July 11th and the team has a 2.5 game lead in the South Division with 10 games left in the first half of play, which ends July 13th. This weeks games include a three game series with the Bangor Lumberjacks, beginning tonight with a doubleheader, and then a four-game weekend series against the Elmira Pioneers.

Thursdays at Yale Field are Thirsty Thursday's with $1 Budweiser and Bud Light draft beers. After every Friday night home game this summer, a fireworks show will light up the New Haven sky.
