Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals will host Race Weekend at First Arena on Friday and Saturday, as the Jackals sport special racing jerseys for their games against the Kalamazoo Wings and the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday and Saturday at 7:35 p.m.

The two-night event celebrates the return of racing to the Elmira area, with local racing getting underway for the spring and summer seasons in the coming weeks.

After Saturday's game, the jerseys will be auctioned off to Jackals fans attending the game, as the Jackals did when they honored New York State Correctional Officers with special jerseys on Feb. 19 and 20.

To purchase tickets to either game, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto Ticketmaster.com.

On Sunday, the Jackals travel to Reading to take on the Royals in what will be a crucial battle to determine division positioning.

TWO VICTORIES HELP JACKALS MAINTAIN SEVEN-POINT LEAD

The Jackals remain seven-points ahead of the second place Royals for the top spot in the American East Division as the teams enter the ECHL's 22nd week of 2009-2010. Elmira earned two 5-4 overtime victories against the Johnstown Chiefs this weekend, with a loss to the Kalamazoo Wings sandwiched in between.

Friday's home overtime win saw Olivier Proulx redirect an R.J. Anderson shot as the Jackals held off three Chiefs' comebacks, while on Sunday, the Jackals battled back from four one-goal deficits, tying the game in the final minute on a Justin Donati goal, then winning it in the first minute of overtime on a Brennan Turner tally.

ANOTHER SELLOUT

The 13th sellout crowd of the season came to First Arena on Saturday, as a group of 3,791 passed through the turnstiles to see the Jackals and the K-Wings do battle. Elmira leads the league in sellout crowds, and has 42 since it joined the ECHL for the 2007-2008 season.

TWO POINTS FROM THE RECORD

With a four-point weekend, Tyler Donati is now two points shy of Randy Murphy's Jackals single-season record of 93 points, set in 2002-2003. Tyler leads the ECHL with 91 points in 54 games played this season, and he could break the record as soon as Friday.

JACKALS, MDA TEAM UP THIS WEDNESDAY

The Elmira Jackals will hang up their skates to become waiters on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 6:05 p.m. at First Arena as they once again team up with Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) for the Fourth Annual Spaghetti on Ice event.

The Jackals will be special guest waiters for the event as they bring spaghetti meals to your table. Each player will be competing for the most tips, which will be donated to the MDA. The players can be tipped for providing eating utensils, drinks, salad, spaghetti, or autographs.

All ticket holders attending the event will take home a special 2010 Elmira Jackals Spaghetti on Ice puck. Special Jackals 2010 Spaghetti on Ice t-shirts will be on sale throughout the event. There will be a live auction of commemorative Elmira Jackals Spaghetti on Ice Jerseys, which will be worn at the event and signed by the player who wore the jersey.

The cost of a ticket is $12, with four packs available for $40. Children age five and under are admitted free of charge. Tickets can be be purchased at the First Arena Box Office, the Holiday Inn-Riverview and the Holiday Inn Express-Horseheads as well as by calling the MDA office at 607-797-3463.

MDA helps children and adults who are affected by any of the over 40 neuromusuclar diseases coverered by MDA's comprehensive medical services and research programs. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the association.

Mike Thompson, who played for the Jackals in their first four seasons and served as team captain, is another fan-favorite who will be participating in the Labatt Blue/Seneca Beverage Elmira Jackals Alumni Game on Saturday, Mar. 27 at First Arena.

After the game, the Jackals will hold a party to celebrate the game at a local area establishment, with exact location to be determined. The players will also be available for a meet and greet with fans after the Jackals' game against the Trenton Devils on Friday, Mar. 26.

The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. for the alumni game. Tickets to the event start at $12, and are available by visiting the First Arena Box Office, calling (607) 734-PUCK (7825), or log onto Ticketmaster.com.
