Islanders' Streit Named Meigray ECHL Alumnus Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Former ECHL and current New York Islanders defenseman Mark Streit is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for February.

The leading distributor of game-worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL," MeiGray sold more than 700 game-worn ECHL jerseys in 2008-09 and has sold more than 3,600 since it became "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL" in 2002-03.

Streit had two points (1g-1a), including a power-play goal, in six games for the Islanders and had three assists in five games as captain of Switzerland's hockey team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. His three assists tied him for fourth among defensemen during the Games, while his three points tied him for fifth among defensemen. He also led Swiss skaters with over 130 minutes of ice time and nearly 200 shifts for the tournament.

The Bern, Switzerland native split the 1999-2000 season between the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks of the ECHL, Springfield of the American Hockey League and the Utah Grizzlies of the International Hockey League.

He saw action in 14 games for Tallahassee registering five assists and 16 penalty minutes while registering one assist and two penalty minutes in one game for Utah. He spent the majority of the season with Springfield where he recorded 15 points (3g-12a) and 18 penalty minutes in 48 regular-season games and two penalty minutes in five playoff games.

Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the ninth round (262nd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Streit was signed as a free agent by the New York Islanders on July 1, 2008 and is a veteran of 343 NHL regular season games from 2005-2010 with Montreal and the Islanders amassing totals of 199 points (50g-149a) and 172 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games recording four points (1g-3a) and eight penalty minutes.
