
Jackals Outlast Tornadoes, Snap Five-Game Win Streak

Little Falls, NJ -- The Worcester Tornadoes came from four runs down late to tie the game, but the New Jersey Jackals tacked on a run off the bullpen to edge the Tornadoes, 7-6, and snap Worcester's five-game winning streak.
For the ninth consecutive game, the Tornadoes scored first, using a two-out RBI single by Jeff LaHair to take a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. But New Jersey got to struggling right Alex Pena for four runs in the 3rd on a Clyde Williams three-run home run and a Joe Mihalics RBI single to make it 4-1, New Jersey.
The Tornadoes got one back in the top of the 4th, as catcher ripped a solo homer off Jackals lefty Demetrius Banks to make it 4-2. It was the first professional home run for Perry. The Jackals would add two more off Pena in the 6th, and took a 6-2 lead into the top of the 7th. But Worcester would not go down without a fight, as Dominic Ramos homered to left off righty reliever Sean Kramer (1-0) and the Tornadoes scored three more time after two were out to tie it at 6-6.
But the Jackals used back-to-back singles off Matthew Salvato (0-1) to start the bottom of the 7th to set up the go-ahead run, and hung on for the 7-6 victory. Kramer (1-0) picked up the win and Salvato (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Rusty Tucker pitched a hitless 9th with two strikeouts to notch his 6th save of the season.
Yohanny Valera and Andrew Wishy extended their hitting streaks to 9 and 7 games respectively. The Tornadoes will look to bounce back and take the rubber game of their three-game set in New Jersey tomorrow morning when they send lefty Mike Meagher to the mound against New Jersey righty Mike Vicaro. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05am.
