New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - On a day after a game where the Jackals were below average in every possible way, the team answered in a strong way as they held on to a back and forth game against the Worcester Tornadoes.

Monday night's 8-3 loss was a game that ever Jackal team member and fan would like to forget. The team's lack of energy showed in the final score. However, the Jackals received a strong pitching performance, as they have all season, from Demetrius Banks and rode his momentum to a 7-6 victory.

When it was all said and done, Banks finished the game going 6 strong innings allowing just 2 runs and striking out 2. Banks, who has spent his baseball career as a relief pitcher, has been one of the most dependable starters on the team this season in his first year as a starter.

On the offensive side the Jackals erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the third. Right fielder Francisco Leandro, as he always has, led off the inning by getting on base, this time via a hit by pitch. Left fielder Jud Thigpen, the new number two hitter, took a 3-2 pitch and ripped it for a single, leaving two runners on base with no outs. One batter later, newcomer and reigning Can-AM League Batter of the Week Clyde Williams blasted a 1-2 fastball over the left field fence, going the opposite way for his third home run in just a weeks time with the Jackals.

Catcher Matt Lauderdale, who doubled after Williams' home run, was driven in by short stop Joe Mihaliks.

In the bottom of the sixth the Jackals played small ball to manufacture two runs. Mihaliks was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved his way over to third during second baseman Zack Smithlin's at bat. Center fielder Tim Turner then perfectly executed a sacrifice squeeze. Leandro would later be driven in by Thigpen.

In the bottom of the seventh, after the Tornadoes scored 4 runs off of reliever Sean Kramer, third baseman Wilton Veras from is designated hitter Sandy Madera, giving the Jackals a go ahead 7-6 lead.

Kramer got the win, the loss went to Matt Salvato, and Rusty Tucker collected his sixth save of the season.
