Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Binghamton, NY - Yard Goats starter Ryan Feltner fired 6.1 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, and Willie Abreu homered as the Yard Goats shutout the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 1-0 on Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. It was Hartford's first 1-0 game of the season, and the Yard Goats first shutout victory since August 16, 2019 also in Binghamton. Feltner recorded nine strikeouts for the third time in four starts and lowered his ERA to a team best 2.78, while improving to 3-2. Abreu's two-out solo home run came in the second inning helping the Yard Goats to a third consecutive win. Relievers Zach Matson, Reagan Todd, and Will Gaddis combined to retire eight of nine batters faced.
The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the second inning, as Willie Abreu cranked a solo home run off Binghamton starter Connor Gray. Abreu ripped a pitch over the center field fence for his fifth homer of the season. The DH was hit in two of his next three at-bats.
Binghamton had chances to score early and left five men on base in the first three innings against Yard Goats starter Ryan Feltner. After squandering a second and third base situation in the first inning, the Rumble Ponies did the same in the third inning as Feltner pitched out of the jam.
Feltner retired the side in order in the fourth inning but the Mets affiliate got a pair of two-out singles in the fifth inning and failed to score. Binghamton's best opportunity to push a run across came in the sixth inning as they loaded the bases with nobody out. However, Felter got a ground ball and two strikeouts to end the threat. The Rumble Ponies went 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.
The Yard Goats continue their 12-game road trip on Wednesday night (6:35 PM) in Binghamton, New York against the Rumble Ponies. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 FM and newsradio1410.iheart.com and the video stream available on MiLB.TV. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, August 17th to host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Tickets are available by visiting the website, yardgoatsbaseball.com.
