Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL â Just two days after teammate Keith Perez landed on the disabled list with right-shoulder tendinitis, the Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, announced today that middle-reliever Clay Tichota has been placed on the disabled list with the same ailment, retroactive to Monday, June 6. Meeting the team in Clinton, Iowa for tonight's contest against the LumberKings at 7:00 p.m., right-handed pitcher Tony Evans joins the Oakland organization from the Sioux City Explorers (Northern, Independent), making his pitching debut in affiliated baseball.
Prior to going on the DL, Clay Tichota, 23, appeared on the mound eighteen times for Kane County, tossing 26.2 innings and collecting 23 strikeouts. A 2004 graduate from Regis University, the A's picked up the righty in the 17th round of last year's June draft. Tichota launched his professional career last season with a 3-0 mark for the Vancouver Canadians (Short-A, Northwest), tossing 36 strikeouts in 42.0 innings pitched.
The former Sioux City Explorer starter, Tony Evans, commenced his professional career in 2003 in the now-inactive Southeastern League (Independent), coming to the Cougars following two years of Independent play. The 25 year-old right-hander began the 2004 season in Brockton (Northeast) before being hindered by a hand injury and eventually, released by the team. Picked up by the Explorers in the latter half of the year, Evans went 4-5 for Sioux City in 20 appearances. Although signed by the St. Louis Cardinals organization over the winter, the California-native attended spring training during the month of March and was released, finding himself back in Sioux City. Previous to his departure, Evans went 3-2 for the Explorers with a 2.42 ERA in 26.0 innings pitched. The newest member of the Cougars pitching staff ranked second in the Northern League with 26 strikeouts, just one shy of the top slot.
